iSeries Model 250:
|
|
iSeries Model 250 is the ideal choice for
businesses looking for an easy to use and highly cost-effective server
solution. iSeries Model 250 delivers mission-critical availability and the
manageability, security, and reliability you need to handle the extreme demands
of today's business.
iSeries Model 250 packages are now
easier to buy, and cost less. Previously sold only as a custom configured
server, now you select one of two packaged configurations with the most
popular, frequently chosen features combined with powerful iSeries software.
After your initial acquisition, you can add
function and capacity as required.
Two packages meet your requirements at initial
acquisition; later, you can add function and capacity with optional features.
The two Model 250 packages are identical,
except for the processor.

group P05 applies to Software Subscription on the Model 250 packages.
Selected feature upgrades to installed Model
250 packages are available. MES orders are not supported by the marketing
configurator for Model 250 packages. However, since the Model 250 packages are
equivalent to custom Model 250 configurations, existing Model 250 documentation
can be used to determine configuration capability of the system. Upgrades from
Entry to Growth packages are not offered.
The following optional features are available
for the packages:

Order Codes:
B - Available on both initial and field upgrade orders
M - Available on field upgrade (MES) orders only
P - Available on initial orders from the plant only
S - Supported for migration only and cannot be ordered
For systems that have a mix of data protection
needs, the disk protection specify code should not be specified. This allows
the customer to choose a mix of disk controllers and disk devices.
When added to an order, this specify code will
cause the order to fail if sufficient disk units are not ordered to support
device level mirrored protection. #0040 requires all disk units to be placed
into mirrorable pairs. The Load Source is controlled by the disk controller and
must be mirrored to a like disk unit attached to the disk controller. (This is
only one disk controller.) The minimum number of disk units allowed on a system
is two.
When added to an order, this specify code
causes the order to fail if a non-RAID configuration is ordered. #0044 requires
that all internal disk units be placed into RAID arrays using #2748 or #2763.
The rules for RAID can be found in the #2748 and #2763 feature descriptions.
Minimum number of RAID disk units allowed on a system: four.
Each system requires one line cord per tower
be specified. One for the base system and one for the expansion unit.
Maximum: Two (must be the same feature code)
All systems require a #29XX specify code. A
29XX code is required on all customer installed MES orders with specify code
#0002 to generate the installation instructions in the appropriate language.
These features have country-specific usage.
Indicates that preloaded software and/or
consolidated I/O is to be shipped with the initial order. A maximum of one
(#5000) is supported.
Note: The following software products are always preloaded on the Model 250
and must be included on an order with #5000. If all four are not on the
software order when #5000 is present, the order will fail.
(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of July 2,
2002)
#5027 is required on all new orders for V4R5.
#5028 is required on all new orders for V5R1.
The Model 250 includes the price of the
following preloaded software programs:
These four programs are included on the model
250 under a new processor group called PPS (processor packaged software). This
new processor group only exists on the model 250 machines. No products can be
ordered from IBM under the PPS group.
The PPS processor group is below the P05
processor group and upgrades to the P05 or higher groups will result in a group
to group upgrade charge. Processor-based software programs other than these
four programs will be charged at the P05 group when ordered for a Model 250.
Upgrades to a higher processor group will only be required when moving the
software to another AS/400 model.
This system is subject to software
subscription at the P05 processor group level. Customers who have subscribed to
software subscription will receive release and version updates for all programs
installed on the model 250, including the four programs at the PPS processor
group level.
AS/400 Client Access Family for Windows users:
Indicates the customer involvement is required
to install this MES. This feature drives translated customer installation
instructions, MES package labeling, and indicates that an IBM CE is not
automatically dispatched to install the MES. Prerequisite: #29XX specify code.
Indicates IBM CE involvement is required to
install this MES. This feature drives CE installation instructions, MES package
labeling, and indicates that an IBM CE should be dispatched to install the MES.
On MES orders for Model 250, #0003 should be added where #0002 is not added.
Multiple #0003 is supported. #0003 should be removed if #0002 is added.
This country specific code is used by
manufacturing applications to determine the correct number of additional
hardware items (for example, wrist straps) to include on a bulk MES order. This
specify code is not supported by the current AS/400 configurator. Maximum: One
per MES bulk order.
(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of
December 28, 2001)
This specify code will satisfy the system
requirement of having a tape or external tape controller. It will reserve a
card position for an external tape controller. It is assumed this controller is
fully used by a customer sourced external tape. Any additional tapes or
customer sourced codes should work independently of this code. This specify
code can be ordered in any quantity subject to card slot availability.
(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of July 2,
2002)
This specify code is used to alert IBM service
representatives of the intention to install a new system concurrently with an
existing system, and over time, move applications to the new system. This
method may be used when adding a system to an existing complex or network, or
when a replaced system is being moved to another location. AS/400 Road Map for
Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150) describes this option in detail. IBM
services are also available for a charge. Only the base operating system will
be preloaded when #0203 is included on the order. The full operating system
(5769-SS1), AS/400 Client Access Family for Windows (5769-XW1), Query for
AS/400 (5769-QU1), and DB2 Query Manager and SQL Development Kit for AS/400
(5769-ST1) will be delivered with the software order with the system when #0203
is present on the system order. #0203 is not supported if #5000 is on the
order.
This feature allows customers to migrate
software applications from their old system to a new system on initial orders
only. Only the base operating system will be preloaded when #0205 is included
on the order. The full operating system (5769-SS1), AS/400 Client Access Family
for Windows (5769-XW1), Query for AS/400 (5769-QU1), and DB2 Query Manager and
SQL Development Kit for AS/400 (5769-ST1) will be delivered with the software
order with the system when #0203 is present on the system order. #0205 is not
supported if #5000 is on the order.
Indicates that a #2724/#9724 Token-Ring
adapter is being used on an Integrated Netfinity Server. For each adapter used
on an Integrated Netfinity Server, a separate #0220 is required. Maximum: One
per #2724/#9724 Token-Ring adapter.
Indicates that a #2723/#9723 Ethernet adapter
is being used on an Integrated Netfinity Server. For each adapter used on an
Integrated Netfinity Server, a separate #0221 is required. Maximum: One per
#2723/#9723 Ethernet adapter.
Indicates that a #2838/#9738 100/10Mbps
adapter is being used on an IPCS. For each adapter used on an Integrated
Netfinity Server, a separate #0222 is required. Maximum: One per #2838/#9738
100/10Mbps adapter.
This country-specific feature is required to
differentiate Iceland from Denmark (678) on hardware orders. Add feature #0322
to every Iceland order. MFC uses #0322 in conjunction with modern I/O adapters,
system unit to generate correct hardware.
This country-specific specify code indicates
the system is to be routed to the Customer Solution Center at time of
manufacture.
To ensure that you continually get full value
and productivity from your server, a comprehensive selection of optional
features is available for the Model 250.
For more flexibility in system and MES
installability, main storage, DASD devices, PCI features, removable media
devices, and external cables are customer setup (installable).
On MES orders where all features are customer
setup, the customer installs all features. On MES orders that contain a mix of
customer engineer (CE) and customer-setup features, you can opt to have a CE
install all features, including those designated as customer setup. IBM
installation of orders containing all customer-installable features will be
available via normal service contracts.
All system units and expansion units have
specific locations for features such as processors, main storage, power,
expansion, disks, tapes, CD-ROMs, and IOPs.
Use the order configurator. It contains the
rules and performance considerations for placement of these features.
Performance tools may also help in optimizing a configuration to match a
specific set of requirements.

This controller with a 26MB write-cache
provides RAID-5 protection and DASD compression capability for internal disk
units, and also supports internal tape and CD-ROM units.
#2748 supports both compression and
non-compression modes. The mode of operation is determined by a hardware
jumper. #2748 is shipped with the jumper set in non-compression mode.
#2748 controls Ultra, and Fast Wide SCSI disk
units installed in the Base System and the System Unit Expansion (#7102). In
addition to providing RAID-5 and compression #2748 also works as a
high-performance controller for disks protected by system mirroring or disks
with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration, disk unit protection is
provided at less cost than mirroring.
#2748 also supports the 1.6GB Read Cache
Device (#6831).
The #2748 controller supports a maximum of 10
disk units. A minimum of four disk units of the same capacity are needed for a
valid RAID 5 configuration. A maximum of two arrays are allowed per controller,
with a maximum of ten disk units allowed per array. All disk units in an array
must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread across four disk units for
arrays of four to seven disk units. Parity can be spread across either four or
eight disk units for arrays of eight to ten disk units. For systems started
with eight to ten disk units in an array the parity for that array will be spread
across eight disk units. For systems that are started with less than eight disk
units in an array and later upgraded to eight, nine, or ten disk units, the
RAID function must be stopped and then started before the parity will be spread
across eight disk units.
The following disk units may be placed into
